Analogue collages in acrylic
This work emerges from the layering of time, territories and affections. Inspired by the journey of my Italian grandparents, who left their homeland after the First World War in search of a new beginning in Brazil, I attempt to stitch together, through paper, glue and memory, the fractures left by migration.
Collage, as a gesture, carries within it the essence of displacement: fragments of different realities, removed from their original contexts and given new meaning within a new body. Just as they crossed oceans to rebuild their lives on foreign soil, I made the journey in reverse — from Brazil to Europe. My movement, though voluntary and belonging to another time, echoes theirs: a body that moves, adapts and divides itself.
It is also a symbolic return. To migrate — like making a collage — is to rebuild the world with whatever one has at hand.
